    Poop deck: Useful Math

Something happened to Math in high-school. For a time it was challenging but achievable. For a time. Then came Grade 9 and it transformed into a slavering, invincible nightmare.

Did you know the UN decreed that having students calculate parabolas is a crime against human dignity? That’s probably true.

But we have to be fair: a study showed that 63% of all students agreed that Math 9 was “highly relevant” to their lives. Sure, that was in 1915 and they were all underage privates serving in WWI artillery squads, but it did help them calculate shell trajectory. Now that’s building relevant life skills!

It fascinates me. Sometimes there’s something useful like books or unused picture hangers. Sometimes it’s questionable like an open bottle of vitamins. Or one time I saw a used “Kama Sutra for Beginners” book and I don’t even know what to think about that.

1 That’s socialism in a nutshell, right? People share stuff. I don’t know why people struggle to understand it.

    Poop deck: Terminal thrift

Screws stored in old caulking tubes my late Opa kept (while he was alive; he didn’t have much use for them once he died). The Quality Street tin I turned into a fish food organizer. Soylent Green. Compost. Thrift is a good thing. And the worse the world economies do, the more I admire this lady.
