Did you know that the human body has an anti-exploitation mechanism? It’s true. The following may happen to you at work:
- casual verbal abuse
- unfair compensation
- pitiful wages
- Orwellian surveillance
But here’s what will not happen: you won’t be eaten. No matter how greedy or cruel, your bosses, clients or customers won’t eat you. Why? Why not go that last step and take everything from another human being? Because human’s are remarkably un-nutritious (honestly, we are1).
So there you have it! They can’t take away your pride and they won’t take away your flesh (to eat).
1 I can’t remember which of these books I read that in, but they’re all good, so read them all: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Will my Cat Eat my Eyeballs and some other one who’s name I can’t recall.
